With inspirational vision and enthusiasm, J. J. Wilkins, Jr. serves as the Senior Pastor of Wake Chapel Church, “One Church Many Locations Going Forward” – WCC Central and the state of-the-art Life Enrichment Center located at 3805 Tarheel Club Road and WCC North located at 4509 Bland Road in Raleigh, North Carolina.
His visionary leadership, dynamic sermons, and riveting sense of humor empower and positively impact thousands of lives on a weekly basis and he never stops smiling. Wake Chapel has experienced tremendous growth in discipleship, community/outreach services, and physical facilities during his productive 21-year pastorate.
Pastor Wilkins earned a B.S. Degree in Human Services from Southern New Hampshire University. Subsequently, he pursued theological studies at Yale University and Duke University where the Masters of Divinity was conferred upon him in 1988.
His outstanding commitment to community service has garnered him numerous awards and accolades. These honors include the following: 2005 NC Teen Essence Foundation Community Service Award, the African American Cultural Center 2003 Community Service Award, and the “Pastor of the Year” award at the 16th Annual Waljo People’s Choice Awards in March of 2001. During that same year, he co-authored “Preparing for Battle,” a wonderful resource for meeting the challenges of Christian living.
He is married to the lovely Cheryl Renee who effectively and graciously shares in the Ministry. They are the proud parents of two sons, Dr. John Jasper Wilkins, III and Jared Carlton Wilkins.
